Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2026
Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've written it in plain language so you can actually understand it.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in a few different ways, depending on how you use Troova:
Account information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password. Your password is securely hashed and never stored in plain text.
Profile information: You can optionally add a profile photo and location to your account. These are entirely optional.
Content you create: This includes reviews, ratings, photos, posts, and comments you publish on the platform.
Usage data: We collect information about which pages you visit and which features you use. This helps us understand how to improve the platform.
Device information: We collect standard web analytics data like your browser type and operating system.
IP address: We temporarily collect your IP address for rate limiting and bot protection. This helps us prevent abuse and keep the platform secure.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Troova platform.
- Display your reviews, ratings, and other content to other users.
- Send you account-related notifications (password resets, security alerts, and similar essential communications).
- Prevent fraud, abuse, and other harmful activity on the platform.
- Understand how people use Troova so we can make it better.
We never sell your personal information. Ever. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
3. Information Sharing
Here's who can see your information:
- Public content: Your reviews, ratings, and public profile information are visible to all Troova users and visitors.
- Service providers: We share data with trusted service providers who help us run the platform, including hosting, email delivery, and security services. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information.
- Legal requirements: We may share information if required to do so by law, such as in response to a court order or legal process.
- No advertisers: We do not share your personal information with advertisers or marketing companies.
4. Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously and use industry-standard measures to protect it:
- All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS and encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption.
- Row-level security policies ensure that database access is strictly controlled, so users can only access data they're authorized to see.
- We conduct regular security audits and actively monitor the platform for suspicious activity.
- Rate limiting is in place across the platform to prevent brute-force attacks and abuse.
5. Your Rights
You have control over your data. Here's what you can do:
- Access your data: View and manage all your information through your account settings.
- Download your data: Export your account information, reviews, and saved businesses.
- Delete your account: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through your account settings. This action is permanent.
- Opt out of emails: You can opt out of non-essential emails through your notification settings. You'll still receive critical account-related messages (like security alerts).
6. Cookies and Tracking
We keep our use of cookies minimal and transparent:
- Essential cookies: We use cookies that are necessary for authentication and keeping you logged in securely.
- Bot protection: We use Vercel BotID, an invisible bot detection system, to verify you're a real person. It requires no cookies or user interaction.
- No advertising cookies: We do not use advertising or marketing tracking cookies.
- No cross-site tracking: We do not use third-party analytics services that track you across other websites.
7. Children's Privacy
Troova is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@troova.com and we'll promptly delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
For significant changes that affect how we handle your data, we'll notify you by email or through a prominent notice on the platform before the changes take effect.
